Atlantium's PMO-Compliant Alternative for Water Pasteurization in Dairy Industry goes Mainstream
UV solution far more sustainable than heat pasteurization
January 20, 2011
Atlantium Technologies Ltd., a leader in UV (ultraviolet) water treatment for industrial and municipal applications, today announced that its UV light-based substitute for heat pasteurized water goes mainstream this month, after new FDA regulations - PMO '09 - take effect across the dairy industry.
FDA's Pasteurized Milk Ordinance (PMO), the rulebook on standards and regulations governing dairy products in the US, obligates the use of pasteurized water in some dairy processing, a process involving significant energy and operational expenditures. However, the PMO allows UV to replace heat pasteurization on condition that the UV system meets specific criteria. A UV-based alternative for heat pasteurization is a far more sustainable solution that can save a lot of money while improving operational efficiency, with pasteurized-equivalent water on demand all the time.
PMO provides clear UV solution criteria, paving the way for dairies to shop for a system that will really work. With regulators recognizing the benefits of the UV system over pasteurization, dairies have been allowed early adoption of UV for pasteurized-equivalent water and there are Atlantium UV systems currently installed in dairies all across the US.
Based on advanced hydraulic and fiber optic principles, Atlantium's UV solution meets all FDA criteria for water disinfection and pasteurized-equivalent water, and has been validated in accordance with the strictest Government protocols at the UV Research and Validation Center, operated by a third party validator.
"I am proud of our achievements in providing sustainable water treatment solutions that meet the highest regulatory and environmental criteria", said Benjie Kahn, Atlantium CEO and recognized environmentalist. "Quite a few dairies have already installed our systems and their ROI has been quick. Atlantium is committed to continue providing sustainable solutions that benefit both industry and the environment."
